Description
Key tasks and responsibilities of the role (your contribution).
• Use specialist expertise and experience in serology and/or virology to provide scientific leadership to support the delivery of diagnostic biosecurity services.
• Develop, optimise, and validate new analytical methods relevant to veterinary virology.
• Develop and support the management of the Serology-Virology section's processes, including method development and review, audit evaluations and competency assessments.
• Perform all work and maintain records according to the requirements of the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), the laboratory's quality management system and biosecurity containment level 2 (class 5.2).
• Be responsible for supervising a team of technical staff, including associated corporate governance compliance, delegation of tasks and ensuring staff development and maintenance of technical capabilities.
• Provide expert analysis and advice to contribute to strategic planning and policy formulation in matters of emerging and endemic animal disease diagnosis and control.
• Maintain expertise by keeping up to date with scientific research developments, establishing and maintaining effective scientific and industry networks, delivering presentations, and attending seminars, conferences and other professional forums.
• Foster an environment that values individual and team performance and continuous improvement consistent with contemporary best practice.
• Positively and effectively communicate and collaborate with other laboratory staff to actively resolve problems and address scientific challenges and aid other areas of the laboratory at the request of the Manager.
