Description
***BEFORE YOU APPLY - PLEASE ENSURE YOU CAN DEMONSTRATE LAND MANGEMENT EXPERIENCE. THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION***
Ask the contact about relocation reimbursement and temporary accommodation to assist with your transition to the sunshine state.
The Senior Ranger role requires demonstrated experience in land management to hit the ground running and effectively lead the team in this dynamic environment. You'll be responsible for the strategic management of key recreation and conservation areas, including Bribie Island Recreation Area, Pumicestone Passage section of Moreton Bay Marine Park, South Stradbroke Island Conservation Park, and Southern Bay Islands National Park. These areas are not only popular recreational destinations but also critical habitats that need careful management to balance conservation efforts with public use.
As a Senior Ranger, your duties will span across five focus areas: Pest Management, Fire Management, Estate Management, Visitor Management, and Assets and Safety. Each of these areas requires a deep understanding of land management principles and the ability to apply them effectively. For instance, in Pest Management, you'll be expected to develop and implement strategies to control invasive species that threaten local ecosystems. In Fire Management, you'll plan and execute controlled burns and other fire prevention measures to protect both natural habitats and nearby communities.
Leadership is a critical component of this role. You'll need to guide your team with visionary thinking, effective communication, and integrity. Your ability to inspire and motivate others will be crucial in achieving our conservation objectives. This includes setting clear goals, allocating resources efficiently, and monitoring outcomes to ensure that our efforts are effective and aligned with broader environmental policies and legislation.
Compliance and enforcement are significant aspects of this position. You'll need to interpret and apply relevant legislation, such as the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Recreation Areas Management Act 2006, Marine Parks Act 2004, and other laws governing our protected areas. Your role will involve conducting inspections, issuing permits, and taking enforcement actions when necessary to ensure that regulations are followed and our natural resources are protected.
Cultural awareness and engagement with First Nations Peoples are integral to this role. You'll need to demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural significance of natural areas to Indigenous communities and work collaboratively with them. This includes respecting traditional knowledge, involving Indigenous stakeholders in decision-making processes, and integrating cultural heritage considerations into our management practices.
Effective stakeholder engagement is essential. You'll establish and maintain relationships with neighbouring landholders, other government departments, industry groups, commercial operators, recreational user groups, and traditional owners. Your ability to communicate clearly and build trust will help foster collaboration and support for our conservation initiatives.
This is a challenging and rewarding role that offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on Queensland's natural landscapes. If you have the experience and passion for natural resource management, we encourage you to apply and join us in preserving our natural treasures for future generations.
