Please note: Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.
The Senior Policy Officer - Biosecurity provides authoritative and specialist advice on invasive species biosecurity policy and legislation, including management of biosecurity legislation. Responsibilities include advising the Minister, Executive and others across government on invasive species and biosecurity issues. While the role has a core focus on invasive species, it also engages in agricultural regulatory policy matters more broadly. This may include development of policy and legislation relating to food safety, agricultural and veterinary chemicals, and plant and animal biosecurity.
Biosecurity policy is a complex and dynamic area that requires excellent communication, liaison and negotiation skills, as well as strong personal resilience and drive to achieve outcomes that can be accepted by stakeholders. The ability to develop and maintain good relationships with a wide range of stakeholders is essential as is the ability to assess issues and determine pragmatic, workable solutions in a timely way. The role requires good knowledge of biosecurity, in particular invasive species, ecology, natural resource management and agricultural production. It also requires demonstrated experience in the development of policy and legislation.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is Attwood with flexibility may be available and hybrid work arrangements.
