The Department of Planning and Environment is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Policy Officer, Animal Research Ethics to join our Environment & Heritage Group division.

The Senior Policy Officer Animal Research Ethics is responsible for developing and maintaining policy to ensure the Department is compliant with NSW animal research legislation and the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.  This includes policy development and guidance for the Department’s Animal Ethics Committee (AEC). The Senior Policy officer also has a role in the development of process improvement and conducts policy evaluations and when necessary, in undertaking investigations on behalf of the Animal Ethics Committee and referral of matters to Regional NSW as required.

 

About You

Key knowledge and experience

  • Understanding of the regulatory policy development or demonstrated ability to acquire knowledge quickly.
  • Experience in providing support and advice at the senior executive level.
  • Understanding of the regulatory process and promoting voluntary compliance
  • Understanding of process improvement and user centric design.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of policies, undertaking research and investigations related to environmental compliance or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of policy in a regulatory setting.

 

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience.
  • Hold a certificate IV in Government Investigations or similar or have capacity to obtain such qualification within 3 months of commencement in this role.
