This is a part time, continuing position at a HEP 6, $82,372 - $89,161 (pro-rata) classification working 22.05 hours (0.6 FTE) per week.

About the role

The overall purpose of the ​Senior Officer, Animal Ethics & Biosafety​ is to provide administrative and high-level secretarial support to the University’s Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) in relation to animal ethics and biosafety applications and animal ethics and biosafety more broadly at the University.

 

About the person

​​The successful incumbent will demonstrate knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements related to animal ethics and biosafety, and may have had previous experience in an animal facility or laboratory in a tertiary education institution or similar environment.

They will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, preferably with previous governance or management committee experience.

 

Duties

An example of duties you may perform will include:

  • ​​Providing high-level secretarial support to the AEC and IBS including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, minutes, amendments, and annual reports, as well as performing follow up actions resulting from committee discussions and decisions.
  • Preparation of reports, submissions and other documents on behalf of the AEC and IBC.
  • Ensure operating guidelines are followed and the committee works within the requirements of relevant legislation.
  • Liaise with researchers to provide advice and ensure correct lodgement of applications and amendments for committee consideration as appropriate to ensure an efficient use of committee time.
  • Participation in special projects to continuously improve processes, tools, systems and organisation.
