Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a DVM or equivalent.

Candidates should also possess:

  • MSc or equivalent in Veterinary Surgery (Small Animal Surgery - Orthopaedics) Board Certification or specialized training in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics)
  • Five (5) years’ experience in Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery practice at a university or small animal referral clinic
  • Five (5) years clinical teaching experience in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics)
  • Substantial record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Evidence of research with extramural funding
  • Evidence of providing clinical service to referral cases
  • Evidence of prior success in supervising personnel, hospitalized cases and managing resident animals

 

Candidates with proficiency in mentoring and supervising postgraduate research and mentoring
junior faculty would have an advantage.

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • PhD in Veterinary Surgery (Small Animal Orthopaedics)
  • Evidence of postgraduate research supervision
  • Evidence of contributing to curriculum development

 

Special Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the delivery of undergraduate Clinical Medicine and Surgery courses
  • Contributing to the delivery of pre-clinical course development
  • Participating in Problem Based Learning (PBL)
  • Conducting research and seeking extramural funding
  • Engaging in Veterinary School Committees and student support activities
  • Providing clinical service to referral cases
  • Supervising postgraduate research and mentoring junior faculty
  • Overseeing the welfare of:

o Clinical cases warded at the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM)
o The animals housed at the SVM

  • Mentoring of junior staff to develop their competency in orthopaedic surgery
  • Supervising staff responsible for all in-house animals
  • Contributing significantly to curriculum development
