As our Senior Fisheries Biologist, you will:
• In accordance with interests of the Fisheries Act 1994, lead in the identification of impacts and represent the department in the negotiation of lesser impact options upon fresh and marine fish habitats, fisheries resources and fishing access from planning instruments, infrastructure and development proposed under the Planning Act 2016, the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971, the Sustainable Ports Development Act 2015, the Economic Development Act 2012, the Environmental Offsets Act 2014 and other relevant legislation and provide concise, accurate and influential written recommendations to effectively manage these.
• Assess complex applications for legislative approvals that impact on fisheries resources and provide written recommendations of conditions for an approval or refusal of the application.
• Assist the Manager and Principal Officers by guiding and providing quality assurance of operational activities and providing training, coaching and mentoring of team members across the State.
• Prepare reports, letters and comments and delivery of formal and informal talks or presentations.
• Carry out pre-work development proposal site inspections and impact monitoring of completed authorised developments.
• Assist in the review and preparation of comments on planning instruments in relation to the management of fish habitats and fisheries resources.
