About the role:
The is a fixed term opportunity for an experienced RAS technician until February 28, 2025. As a Senior Fish farm technician you will provide critical operational support and leadership within our new commercial scale RAS Kingfish farm at Bream Bay. This role will include day to day oversight and management of fish husbandry, harvesting, grading, water quality analysis and equipment monitoring. The work will also include some input in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and creating an environment within NIWA Aquaculture that enables people to perform to their potential with a strong focus on health and safety. This position will be a hands-on role ensuring production, strategies and operational systems are functioning optimally.
The operation runs 24/7/365 so the position will involve some shift work including working on some statutory holidays, rostered weekend duties and rostered after hours alarm standby.
What you will bring:
- A thorough understanding of commercial fish aquaculture operations, current aquaculture techniques with a up to date understanding of RAS design, construction and operation.
- Practical commercial aquaculture experience, ideally with a leadership role.
- Be a good team player and enjoy working with a wide range of people including clients and suppliers
- Experience operating and maintaining aquaculture systems, with an eye for continual optimisation.
- Passion for the environment and a desire to work towards a sustainable future
- Experience with Health and Safety procedures equivalent to NZ standards
