  • This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of Western Australia’s frontline in preventing biosecurity risks.
  • Provides technical support and inspection activities to prevent and manage biosecurity hazards.
  • Lead a small diverse team of Biosecurity Officers in Australia’s public sector.

 

We currently have one (1) Senior Biosecurity Officer position available for immediate filling in the Perth Metropolitan Area.

 

What will your typical day look like?

In this role you will be responsible for protecting the Western Australian economy, environment, and people by preventing and coordinating risk from a variety of pests and diseases that impact WA’s agriculture and aquaculture environment. As a Senior Biosecurity Officer you will provide project management support, technical knowledge and on-ground operational management of project activities. Your primary project and operations will be working on the resistance management of stored grain pests, and undertake field surveillance and lab research on related pests.  You will also be required to develop and implement surveillance systems on new and emerging biosecurity threats across a range of industries and environments.

We are looking for proactive biosecurity professionals with relevant experience and qualifications, a flair for community engagement, and possess highly developed communications and interpersonal skills which will assist in engaging with the Department’s stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will require experience in field, regulatory, surveillance and/or inspection activities, while having extensive knowledge and experience of invasive plants and animal species.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant’s expense.

 

Special Requirements for this position:

  • In line with the Directions made by the Chief Health Officer (CHO) under the Public Health Act 2016 (WA), to be eligible for appointment to this position, applicants must provide evidence that they are fully vaccinated (unless a valid medical exemption is granted by the CHO). Fully vaccinated applicants are also required to receive a third dose by 5 February 2022 or within one month of becoming eligible for the third dose.
  • A current and valid Western Australian C (car) class driver's licence, or equivalent is required (if not currently held, must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant's expense).
  • Occasional travel to and from metropolitan and regional offices may be required.
  • The contract of employment specifies terms and conditions relating to this position.

This pool will be valid for a period of twelve (12) months following finalisation of the process and may be used to fill permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities that may arise in this period. Please note, being appointed to the pool does not guarantee you placement to a position.
