About us

South East Local Land Services is seeking a highly motivated and well-organised professional to lead and coordinate the daily delivery of biosecurity programs, projects, and advisory services across the South Coast region. In this role, you will provide guidance, support, and direction to a team of Biosecurity Officers while working in the field, managing small teams, and engaging with key stakeholders to mitigate biosecurity threats impacting the NSW economy, environment, and community.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, planning, and communication skills, along with comprehensive knowledge of vertebrate pest management and compliance under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015 and the Local Land Services Act 2013.

As a Senior Biosecurity Officer, you will be both in the field and in the office as you;

  • Lead, manage and coordinate the day-to-day delivery of biosecurity programs and advisory services
  • Manage, support and provide guidance and direction to a team of Biosecurity Officers and Pest Animal Controllers
  • Plan, coordinate and lead operational projects, including animal and plant biosecurity surveillance activities, pest animal control programs and disease investigations
  • Deliver compliance programs to ensure legislated biosecurity obligations for pest and disease management and livestock and plant traceability are met
  • Be available and support other staff to prepare and respond to emergencies within the Agriculture and Animal Services Functional Area
  • Work collaboratively with other LLS teams from the agriculture, natural resource management, animal heath, and business services functions to deliver integrated customer service focused advice, projects and services.
  • Engage with landholders, community groups, government agencies and other stakeholders to raise awareness of biosecurity issues
  • Deliver and coordinate training to landholders on best practice pest management controls and support them to implement control programs

Having comprehensive knowledge of invasive pest management and compliance as it relates to the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015 and the Local Land Services Act 2013, you’ll be someone who can translate priorities, plans and standards into effective on ground field programs and projects, ensuring what we deliver is in line with the needs of our land managers and the legislation that we operate under.

You will be a subject matter expert and act as a reference point for the team in making decisions and giving guidance on challenging scenarios, managing industry and community expectations whilst operating in fast paced, technical environment where immediate requirements can take precedence over planned activities.

You’ll be a people person with communication skills to match and be adept at collaborating and coordinating with customers, stakeholders and investors to implement legislative requirements, policies, procedures and guidelines across a broad range of activities.

About You
This is a role for someone who loves being in the field and working with people and animals, and to be successful you’ll need to have:

  • A Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or the ability and willingness to successfully complete same
  • Appropriate qualifications (minimum AQF3 level) and knowledge relevant to pesticide application
  • The capacity to hold an NSW firearms licence or equivalent, as well as use firearms to humanely destroy animals (AQF AHCVPT203A or AHCPMG304)
  • The ability to be appointed as an Authorised Officer under the Biosecurity Act
  • A current NSW Class C Driver License and the ability and willingness to travel (including overnight stays) as required

If you are passionate about helping local communities to manage biosecurity risks and emergency situations, then we want to hear from you.
