What's on offer?
Ridley has an exciting opportunity on offer based in Melbourne and reporting to the General Manager Nutrition and Technical.
This hands-on role is responsible for leading a team of experienced nutritionist performing formulation and ingredient allocations across mills, adjusting diet formulations, developing and monitoring specs and supporting Ridley feed mills to ensure optimal productivity. In addition to providing nutrition and technical expertise to both internal and external stakeholders
Further responsibilities include developing and leading innovation projects for products and services related to animal nutrition and providing technical support to the Sales, Quality and Procurement teams. Improving Ridley's sustainability, competitiveness and shareholder value, with both short and long-term horizons, across animal species.
Key responsibilities include
- Develop and execute the innovation strategy and agenda conducive to and across business units.
- Coordinate the support of the commercial implementation of selected innovation projects.
- Enhance the Sustainability of Ridley's offerings through the development and implementation of new products, services, methods or techniques.
- Establish collaboration agreements with innovation and research individuals, groups, companies and/or institutions, under the right terms and conditions for Ridley, as a way to support Ridley's innovation pipeline.
- Identify, develop and implement novel nutritional approaches conducive to feed cost reduction, improved animal performance, reduced nutrient variation in final products, new products and services, among others.
- Design nutritional programs and diets for selected customers (broiler, layer, duck, turkey) and markets (industrialised and backyard).
- Implement and coordinate nutrition modelling in poultry, swine and dairy.
- Implement & coordinate all least-cost formulation diets for designated Feed Mills and relieving other site nutritionists as required.
- Implement on-cost or consultant nutritionist formulations for their respective customers.
- Assist the Purchasing Department to evaluate requirements of new and existing raw materials and optimum use of restricted raw materials (e.g. Millrun/Millmix).
- Liaise with production personnel on technical aspects of feed production.
- Provide diet formulations suitable for best optimising Site profitability through balancing raw material price & availability, manufacturing efficiencies and sales margins.
- Maximise the profitability of diets whilst ensuring diets meet customer specification, Ridley standards and ethical practices.
- Provide technical support for customers, in collaboration with the Commercial team, Regional Sales Managers and Territory Managers.
- Provide technical and nutrition support to Ridley's commercial representatives to ensure strong engagement with major customers.
- Provide timely responses to customer queries and concerns.
- Coach and support team members on specific areas of know-how (i.e, modelling, experimental design, broiler breeder nutrition, etc., etc.) contributing to augment the collective technical expertise of Ridley.
- Establish an innovative culture in the Technical and Nutrition Team.
Key Skills
- A degree or higher in Animal Science or similar equivalent (a PhD in Animal Nutrition will be highly regarded);
- A minimum of 15 years of combined experience developing new solutions or services for poultry, and experience at a poultry/swine integrator or animal feed company focused on poultry/swine.
- Developed leadership experience managing teams.
- Experience in practical nutrition, diet formulation, knowledge and skills in Feed Formulation Software.
- Experience and knowledge in R&D, experimental design and trial conduction.
- Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to think laterally and influence effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
- A willingness to work both on-farm with customers and in an office-based environment, as well as flexibility to travel regionally regularly 25% of the time to manufacturing sites, customers, and R&D trials.
- Self-motivated and action-driven, with an ability to plan and coordinate workload to meet critical deadlines and demonstrated commitment to the achievement of business goals and outcomes;
