About the Cancer Genetics Laboratory:

The Cancer Genetics and Functional Genomics Laboratories collaborate to follow up genome-wise association studies in order to identify breast cancer risk genes and determine their mechanisms of action. Collectively we have a dynamic group of post-docs, bioinformaticians, research assistants and students. A major focus is follow up of a breast cancer risk locus where the target gene is amenable to drug repurposing to treat, and even prevent, breast cancer. This pre-clinical project uses human and murine tumour models.

 

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare cell and tissue cultures for mammary fat pad, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal or intravenous injection.
  • Administer reagents by oral gavage, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal or intravenous injection.
  • Monitor mice and tumour measurements.
  • Conduct mouse anaesthesia and euthanasia.
  • Sample and process blood and tissue for FACS.
  • Undertake tumour resection surgery and post-operative care.

 

About you:

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • A diploma level qualification preferably in Animal Technology or similar;
  • Extensive expertise in animal handling and use;
  • Enthusiasm for working in a team environment; and
  • Experience and understanding of regulatory requirements for animal use;
  • Experience in FACS and maintaining & breeding mouse colonies would be an advantage.

 

Remuneration: Salary range is $65,185 - $77,677 p.a. prorate for part-time plus super and salary packaging. This is a two year, part-time (up to 0.5 FTE) appointment with possible expansion and extension.
