We have an exciting opportunity for 5 Scientific Officers (Risk Assessor Support) to join several teams within the RAU. Working on a wide range of projects, from detailed reports to incident response risk assessments, the successful candidate will engage in varied and fascinating work that will support not only the mission of the FSA but also the health of the wider public.
The post holder will work with colleagues from across the Agency, as well as other government departments, consumer representatives and scientists within our external partners’ organisations. Using their experience in scientific analysis, they will provide the insight and guidance that will drive the FSA’s response to hazards that present a risk to UK consumers.
The work requires flexibility, as well as the ability to deliver results at pace when necessary. Technical skills
We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:
- A degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., toxicology, biology, epidemiology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, food science) or equivalent understanding of scientific issues
Benefits
Some of these roles are required to provide occasional out of hours risk assessment advice to support the FSA incident response on Friday evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. On-call payments will be available according to the FSA on call allowances policy in addition to the advertised salary. Overtime will be paid or time off in lieu can be claimed for any out of hours work.
New Starter Spot Rates: £24,466 (National) £26,931 (London)
External Candidates: External candidates will receive the new starter spot rate as advertised above. Following successful completion of probation and at least 6 months of satisfactory performance, you will receive an uplift of salary to the target spot rate.
OGD Candidates: Candidates coming in on level transfer will automatically go onto the target spot rate. If your salary exceeds this, you will not be able to retain the additional.
Target spot rates: £26,751 (National) £29,085 (London)
