As our Science Technician, you will provide operational services that protect and enhance animal biosecurity and welfare in Queensland. With Queensland being affected by more biosecurity incursions than any other Australian state or territory, your efforts will be integral in helping the government prevent, respond to, and recover from biosecurity concerns that threaten our environment and economy.

You will know you're achieving success in the role when you:

  • Are dedicated to manufacturing Tick Fever vaccine to maintain Australian Pesticides Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) accreditation
  • Accurately performing routine tasks in accordance with Standard operating procedures (SOP's) and ongoing compliance with relevant quality management system requirements
  • Ensuring assigned tasks are undertaken promptly and meet the project deliverables
  • Are actively contributing as a member of a high-performing team.

It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.

Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) is one of the integral DAF business groups, leading the government's efforts to prevent, respond to and recover from pests and diseases threating agricultural prosperity, the environment, social amenity and human health. We achieve this by maintaining access to markets, protecting animal welfare and reducing the risk of contamination from agricultural management.

Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, respond to and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to market. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DAF response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
