Description

Are you looking for work in the outdoors, with farm animals, great people, and a knowledgeable, fun, and supportive team?

About Us

We are an owner/operator mixed animal practice proudly serving Canterbury and the Mackenzie Country for more than 45 years.

With clinics in Geraldine, Fairlie, and Timaru, our vision is to be the people’s vet practice of choice.  Judging by our loyal client base, we think we’re on the right track.

We are a team who fosters positive relationships through communication and awareness and we’re proud to deliver progressive evidence based veterinary medicine. We focus on preventative animal health to improve the lives of people and their animals.

We consider ourselves a supportive, and quality-motivated practice. Our emphasis is on providing high standards of client care, good outcomes, and a sense of satisfaction from a job well done.

As an employer we value our people and believe that our success is underpinned by every member of our team. We’re a friendly, lively, and passionate group looking forward to welcoming a new veterinary technician to our practice.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience in a veterinary or farm environment
  • Good physical fitness, with good large animal handling skills
  • A veterinary nursing background would be an advantage
  • Competent computer knowledge
  • Good communication with strong organisation and time management skills
  • The ability to work well within a team environment and independently
  • Ability to multi-task, remain calm under pressure and be detail orientated
  • Knowledge of farming practices and large animal products
  • Solid digital and MS Office skills

A completed Rural Tech qualification would be an advantage or an interest/intent to do further training.

What the role requires:

The rural tech role is predominately dairy related, with tasks including but not limited to blood testing, body condition scoring, disbudding, teat sealing, assistance with reproductive programmes, and for certain jobs also data recording and reporting. There may be very occasional times when you will be required to work with sheep, beef, and deer as well as cattle.

The candidate we are looking for should be physically fit with good large animal handling skills and be able to strike up a conversation with all involved in the farming sector.   You must be able to work independently and well in a team environment, be well organized, motivated, and self-driven, with good computer and communication skills.

There will be times when you need to assist at reception or in the surgery, so customer service skills and product knowledge are essential to succeed in this position.  Digital and admin skills are also needed to undertake relevant reporting and essential admin.

Our offering to you

We are a fun filled team who share good sense of humour and commitment to excellence.  We look after our techs with plenty of hearty fare on the big days and a supportive environment where personal professional development is strongly encouraged.

The role will be based out of our Geraldine clinic. Geraldine is a small but perfectly formed town in the heart of South Canterbury and the gateway to Tekapo, Aoraki/Mt Cook, Queenstown, and the Southern Lakes.  Our picturesque village offers great cafes, walking, biking, galleries and more.

With Timaru and Ashburton just a short 35-minute drive, and Christchurch just over an hour and a half away, you’ll have all you need at your fingertips.
