Overview of Position:
Reporting to the Team Lead, Preclinical Models Management This role is a specialist role within the Preclinical department, focused on the provision of veterinarian activities and other scientific processes within pre-clinical programs. The person appointed for this role will ensure the good care and animal husbandry, ethical and regulatory compliance for animal studies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducting animal procedures, especially for animals used for research with multidisciplinary teams.
Design and conduct studies with animals for research purposes.
Ensure for all studies conducted that documentation and data is recorded, stored and communicated to relevant stakeholders within the required timeframes. Present results and write reports for studies conducted as required.
Manage a multidisciplinary when performing animal-related activities. Ensure work and tasks are distributed efficiently and the resources are utilised productively.
Manage animal ethics permit applications and approvals. Implement compliant processes to meet the good care of all animals. Ensure all animal procedures/practices are ethical and compliant with regulatory standards.
Complete all other tasks as requested by your supervisor from time to time that may not fall within the stated scope of this role.
Education:
Veterinary degree with an interest in research using animal models. Of interest would be veterinarian registration.
Desired knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated experience in conducting animal procedures.
Strong understanding of animal welfare regulations and ethical and humane use of animals for research purposes.
Demonstrated experience of performing animal work following current animal welfare regulations.
Experience in working with different animal species (laboratory, small, large animals) and performing procedures such as anaesthesia, parenteral injections, animal monitoring, environmental enrichment.
Experience working with regulated restricted drugs.
Experience in experimental design, conducting animal studies, data analysis and report writing to meet GLP standards.
Experience in preparing and submitting ethics applications for the use of animals for research purposes.
Demonstrated experience in conducting animal procedures, especially for animals used for research in a team set up.
Experience documenting and implementing compliant processes for animal management ensuring all data is recorded, stored and reported to stakeholders within required timeframes.
Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills, task-orientated with a solutions-focused approach.
A high level of drive, enthusiasm and a ‘can do’ approach, comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment; a willingness to learn and to seek answers to problems and issues and propose solutions.
Collaborative and participative team, communication and relationship skills.
Effectively working with others to ensure the business needs and timelines are met.
High capacity for self-managing, planning, organising, prioritising and multi-tasking, independently and as part of a cross-functional team. Manage priorities within prescribed timeframes.
Proven interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (verbal/written/presentation) with the ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
