Description

Mō te tūka | The role

The Research Technician will provide field and technical support for research deliverables within the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, they will be responsible for supporting research, data collection and management of pastures and animals.

Some tasks of the role include:

  • Managing experimental pastures and collecting herbage measurements
  • Provide technical assistance to students and partners working within research programs
  • Coordinate and be responsible for the management of stock on experimental areas
  • Contribute to communication and extension of results at field days
  • Conduct administrative duties in association with the project as required.

This is a fixed-term parental leave cover role ending 29 March 2025, working 37.5 hours per week. Remuneration is set at $59,913 per annum.

 

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Experience in animal handling and an understanding of the NZ code of Animal Welfare
  • Previous experience in pasture management and plant species
  • Ability to maintain clear and concise records
  • Shows an interest in improving the sustainability of dairy farming and has an empathy with farmers

The following skills and attributes will also be useful:

  • Experience in animal handling and an understanding of the NZ code of Animal Welfare
  • A bachelor's degree in Agriculture and/or Farm Management, or corresponding work experience in a Research Organisation is preferred but not essential.
  • Previous experience with the procedures involved with the efficient running of field trials, including pasture studies and grazing studies
  • Has a knowledge of common New Zealand pasture and weed species
