The Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratory system provides timely, accurate and pertinent animal disease diagnostic services and educational outreach to veterinarians, animal industries and animal interests. The Diagnostic Lab strives to meet the goals of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences (CVMBS) and the University through research and diagnostics to develop new approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and through education of professional veterinary medical, graduate and post-doctoral students.

This is a one year special appointment position. There may be opportunities for renewal depending on work unit need and funding availability.
Travel expenses for interviews will be limited to a maximum of $3000 per candidate.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratories will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
- Applicants must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, cellular biology, or genetics or related field.
- Must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree.
- Applicants must have completed a post DVM residency in livestock medicine and have a minimum of two years of experience with medical handling of livestock, bison, and other wildlife species.
- The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratories will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
- Laboratory experience (specifically including aseptic technique and BSC experience with viral applications and exposure to a quality system).
- Excellent communication skills
- Applicant will participate in the collection, preparation, and execution of ELISA assays, molecular assays including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and next-generation sequencing.
- Specifically, applicant should have a strong background in livestock medicine and assay development as this individual will become the primary responsible lab member for overseeing the development, organization, implementation, and updating of bison related laboratory assay protocols.
- Graph data, write up internal reports to document experiments, organize data files, contribute to manuscript preparation and submission.
- Laboratory maintenance and management.
- Ordering and general upkeep of the laboratory space.
- Supervise, train, and coordinate undergraduate and student hourly employees as needed.
