Reporting to the Senior Research Scientist, you will work in the Animal Production Sciences Unit of Agriculture Victoria Research and undertake activities within the pasture, animal nutrition and climate change research programs based at Ellinbank. The appointee will focus on research projects that aim to improve pasture based dairy systems while maintaining or improving profitability and sustainability. This is achieved through innovative research and science excellence, supported by technical efficiency, business processes, technology adoption and knowledge management. The appointee will also contribute to other associated dairy research projects and activities.
The key accountabilities of the role include:
- Undertake an active research program in the field of dairy production science.
- Plan, implement and deliver research projects that develop scientific solutions and techniques that have significant impact.
- Have impact on the Victorian and national dairy industries and policies affecting the industry.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key funding groups and with collaborating research groups.
- Contribute to the achievement of DJPR objectives and new project development.
- Supervise technical staff, participate in teams, work with minimal supervision, and display high levels of initiative while working with colleagues.
- Adopt and apply WH&S policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
To be successful in this role, you will have knowledge of the principles and operation of pasture-based ruminant production systems, with an understanding of dairy production systems in Victoria and Australia. If you can demonstrate research experience, preferably in the implementation of animal experimentation and the subsequent interpretation of generated information as well as experience of effective participation in research project teams, then this could be the position for you.
The position of Research Scientist forms a part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch within the Agriculture Victoria group.
The Agriculture Victoria Research Branch represents DJPR's agricultural research and development function. The Agriculture Research Branch provides a discipline-based science and technology delivery function in the following areas: a) Genomics and Cellular Sciences; b) Microbial Sciences, Pests and Diseases; c) Plant Sciences; d) Plant Production Sciences; e) Animal Production Sciences; and f) Agriculture Resources Sciences.
