About the Company:
Our client is a well-known research institute who has been growing in recent times and have expanded their facilities. The research undergone at the institute is important for health and medical research.
About the Role:
As the Animal Facility Team Leader your responsibilities will include assisting in the care, management and use of animals for research purposes across the institute.
You will provide mentoring and training to the team in terms of animal husbandry and basic animal handling in a small SPF and PC2 laboratory. You will be responsible for leading the team in the day to day care and maintenance of small laboratory animals for medical research.
Duties will include:
- Oversee animal husbandry tasks including, breeding, feeding, cleaning and routine health monitoring and handling whilst maintaining laboratory animal management databases
- Develop procedures for reporting and monitoring events including investigation, resolution and quality improvement
- Coordinate the workflow of the animal facilities and provide day to day supervision of facility staff to ensure operations are efficient for optimal animal care
- Ensure proper implementation of animal welfare practices, protocols and parameters
- Be a solid 2IC to the Facility Manager and step in for the Manager in professional commitments involving external bodies
Skills & Experience:
- Third level qualifications in Science with a research focus
- Extensive animal handling experience within a research environment
- Experience in rodent handling, animal husbandry, and supporting experimental protocols
- Excellent attention to detail required with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent computer skills including database management experience
