School of Environmental and Rural Science - Animal Science

  •         Fixed-term, 3 years full-time with the possibility for extension 
  •         $72,166 to $97,479 per annum (Level A)
  •         Plus 17% employer superannuation
  •         Salary packaging options are available
  •         4 weeks annual leave plus Christmas week shutdown, per annum
  •         UNE will provide sponsorship for this position

About the role 

The Research Fellow in Animal Genetics will be working on project funded by Meat & Livestock Australia, the University of New England and the Department of Primary Industries and Angus Australia to aid in the development of a "Genetic improvement pipeline to reduce methane and improve productivity in the Australian beef industry". You will be a core member of the research project and have an important role undertaking genetic analysis of data on methane emissions and productivity, as well as genomic data, as collected in the project, and you will be estimating relevant genetic parameters and modelling strategies for genetic improvement of those traits. You will be part of a multi-institutional and multidisciplinary team and a proactive and collaborative approach to research as well as an ability to communicate effectively with industry partners and farmers is expected.   About you 

To be successful in this role, you will be developing a track record of research achievement in the field of Animal Genetics or Animal Science. You will have some experience in analysing large scale datasets from livestock breeding programs and possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team, to achieve desired outcomes. Your strong communication skills will enable you to communicate effectively with primary producers, industry advisors and other industry stakeholders.
