The role and opportunity

Invermay Farm is a busy research farm conducting many trials involving sheep, deer, and cattle. We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Research Farm Manager to take on this unique challenge of leading both the physical farm performance and technical science outcomes on this busy farm. Leading a team of four, this position reports to the National Farms Operations Manager.

The successful candidate will work closely with science teams, to provide services to science in the management and implementation of research trials. This position takes a leading role in day-to-day operations on the farm. It is a hands-on role with lots of variety in the operations of the farm on daily basis.

Job Title: Research Farm Manager - Invermay

Location: 176 Puddle Alley, Mosgiel

Hours work per week: 45

Days Required: Monday to Friday with rostered weekend work (approx. one weekend per month)

Number of Positions: 1

Employment Type: Permanent

 

What you will be doing

  • Manage and implement financial and feed budgets.
  • Monitor pasture and animal management using farm technologies, including TruTest and FarmIQ.
  • Lead and support a team of 4 (and casual employees as required).
  • Actively participate in all day-to-day operations on the farm.
  • Commit to best practice farming and ensure Health and Safety is at the forefront of every activity undertaken on farm.
  • Optimise the use of the farm in all areas where trials are not being undertaken.

 

Your ideal background

  • Significant (8+) years farm and livestock experience and/or Agricultural qualification.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to manage financial and feed budgets, and pasture/crop management.
  • Commitment to high standards of animal health and wellbeing.
  • Enjoys working with a wide variety of people including colleagues and external stakeholders.
