What We’re Looking For

Baylor University is seeking a competent and reliable Manager/Senior Manager to supervise and oversee the operations of the research animal facility.  This position will work with animal care and veterinary staff along with other university stakeholders to achieve a safe, clean, and functional environment for the animals and investigators. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Understanding of the needs of a diverse student population within a Christian higher education setting and an openness to cultural humility.
  • Be successful communicating and interacting with all campus populations including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Regular on call, weekend, and holiday shifts required

A Bachelor’s degree, three years of relevant work experience, AALAS certification, and an active Christian faith are required. Five years of experience in laboratory animal medicine, and direct managerial experience are preferred.  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Baylor reserves the right to hire into the Manager/Senior Manager title. 

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate ownership in the operation and success of the animal facility and animal care and use program
  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving
  • Excellent communication and social skills
  • Must work compatibly as a team-player with varied staff members and facility users
  • Must be proficient in working with computers and various software programs
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in related fields
  • Hands-on experience working with research rodents and other species is preferred
  • CMAR or LATG certification is preferred
  • Experience in an AAALAC accredited program is preferred

 

What You Will Do

  • Oversees and performs daily animal husbandry duties and technical duties
  • Trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates animal care staff
  • Works with veterinary staff to ensure the care and well-being of animals
  • Manages inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment to ensure adequate inventory to support facility operations
  • Coordinates and performs facility maintenance and upkeep
  • Ensures that all equipment is operational and schedules on-going maintenance and repairs
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with facility standard operating procedures and all applicable regulations
  • Develops and performs quality assurance program for animal facilities
  • Performs other duties as required
