About This Opportunity

This position will be responsible for identifying research funding opportunities, working closely with researchers in the preparation of high-quality written applications for grants and fellowships, and providing advice and training in grantsmanship. You will assist with capitalising on opportunities for competitive research grants and play a role in enhancing and diversify the School's research performance and reputation.

The role will compile, analyse and report on the Schools' research performance, and serve as the critical link between the School and the research professional services in the Faculty of Science and the Central Portfolios.

The position is based at St Lucia. Regular travel to Gatton or other remote sites will be required.

Key responsibilities will include:

Research Advisory

  • Provides high level advice to researchers in relation to current and future funding opportunities to maximise research income for the school ensuring they meet their obligations in regard to the conduct of research, including conflicts of interest, human and animal ethics and data management.
  • Coordinates operational systems and resources to support researchers in attracting external research funding ensuring applications are submitted by required deadlines, both internally and externally
  • Reviews research grant applications for quality, compliance, and eligibility
  • To enhance quality and competitiveness of grant submissions, provides specialist advice on the structure, content, clarity, style and appropriateness of the proposal for the specific funding scheme.
  • Where relevant, collaborate with the central and faculty research teams and UniQuest
  • Maintain a source of up-to-date suitable content that could be used in proposals and identifying examples of best practice.

General

  • Provides high-level support to researchers for the preparation of high quality research grant applications, including activities such as assistance with research budgets and online submission systems, and the Faculty's readership scheme
  • Provides support for the organisation of School researcher training and capacity building events, and research development activities.
  • Assists with the preparation and writing of reports and strategy documents, as well as School publications and materials.
  • Assists with the compilation and analysis of research data and metrics relevant to school research performance.

 

This is a full-time (100%), continuing position.

At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,649.64 - $105,244.58, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 - $123,136.15 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases - at least once a year.

 

About You

  • Undergraduate qualifications and extensive research development and/or contract management experience (preferably in the tertiary education or research sectors); or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated skills in research contract administration and management OR research development.
  • Knowledge of the relevant industry, philanthropic and Australian competitive granting schemes, with specific experience in writing and editing successful funding applications for agriculture and food science disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise tasks for team and individual responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Evidence of assimilating new information rapidly and deploying such knowledge to the benefit of the organization
  • Demonstrated capacity to successfully engage with industry partners to ensure efficient progression of research contract and advancement matters.
  • Interpersonal communication and customer service skills of a high order
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and proactively liaise across related functional areas of the University.
  • Ability to work effectively independently.
