An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the Australia Zoo Rescue team as a Full Time ‘Rescuer’!

This role will be responsible for responding to any emergency animal care situation reported to our Australia Zoo Rescue Team.  You will be required to attend rescues and ensure the care and wellbeing of the animals at all times.

A successful applicant for this role will have a demonstrated understanding and be sensitive to the needs of the individuals you care for.  You will report directly to the Head of Department and work with an experienced rescue team to ensure that all rescues are completed in the safest manner.

Duties Include: 

  • Undertake cleaning and maintenance of the animal enclosures as required.
  • Always ensure wildlife rescues are carried out with the safety of staff, public and animals as a priority.
  • Prioritising incoming rescue phone calls and liaising with the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to prioritise tasks.
  • Ensure all rules and regulations, policies and procedures are adhered to by all members of the Rescue department.
  • Maintain records of diary entries and rescue/research data.
  • Appropriately respond to phone/email enquiries, and provide advice when needed.
  • Ensure the Rescue department’s area is regularly cleaned and remains presentable at all times.
  • Ensure your Head of Department is kept well informed regarding the Rescue department’s day to day operation when your supervisor is not present, health and safety, training needs, incidents and operational requirements.
  • Facilitate and participate in filming/media activities, when requested.
  • Undertake all training programs as requested by your Head of Department.
  • Participate in skills training and development reviews or programs as requested by the company.
  • Conduct environment and vehicle safety checks.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service at all times.
  • Regular review and maintenance of all rescue equipment.
  • Commit to our privacy and confidentiality policies.
  • Work with guidelines of health and safety procedures to ensure animal, public and staff safety.
  • Attend meetings as requested by Curator of Native Mammals and Wildlife Rescue and Senior Management.

 

Essential Criteria: 

  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • A strong work ethic and ability to communicate and collaborate with others
  • Excellent organisational & time management skills
  • Ability to deal with people – having maturity, integrity, compassion and empathy
  • Hold current Manual Driver’s Licence
  • Proof of Q-fever vaccination (unless otherwise exempt)
  • Lyssavirus vaccination (unless otherwise exempt)
