The Veterinary Nurse is a position within the veterinary department at Healesville Sanctuary that will work closely with other nurses, vets and assist the Senior Vet nurse and Life Sciences Manager - Animal Health with daily operations. The Veterinary Nurse will be required to assist with maintenance of facilities and equipment, ensuring that the department's nursing and husbandry practices are followed to meet world's best industry standards and be a vital team member responsible for ensuring team work is maintained at all times. You will be required to assist in all aspects of zoo nursing including clinical work, laboratory work, animal husbandry and administration.
As a member of our Veterinary Department you will be highly motivated, hardworking, well organised, have strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure and have the following;
- A current Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
- Extensive veterinary nursing experience with Australian animals including surgical, anesthesiology, medical, diagnostic and pathology laboratory procedures, and procurement and maintenance of veterinary and medical supplies and equipment.
- Proven ability to follow standardized work practices to maximise the health care and welfare of animals and the safety and wellbeing of our staff.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in zoo animal husbandry including capture and restraint of a wide range of species.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
