  • Seasonal Summer Ranger Marine Reserve positions based in Tāmaki Makaurau
  • Fixed Term, 12 weeks from early Nov/December 2023 through to end of February 2024

He angitūtanga | About the role

We are searching for 2 Summer Marine reserve rangers to play their part in the protection and advocacy for our Marine Reserves across Tāmaki Makaurau. Your work will stretch across Auckland area marine reserves with a focus at, Long Bay/Okura Marine Reserve and Cape Rodney/Okakari Point (Goat Island). The role will see your passion for conservation shine and will focus on:

  • Advocacy for marine reserves
  • Compliance monitoring – on foot and on the water patrols in our marine reserves to ensure compliance
  • Working primarily a Friday to Monday 4-day working week, including all public holidays
  • Being flexible with working hours to accommodate high/low tides, marine reserve patrol and advocacy opportunities
  • Assisting with the public including volunteers, visitors and the public when appropriate
  • Any other duties appropriate to the role

This is a rare and exciting position that requires you to be able be accommodating and bring with you a variety of skills and experiences!

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Keen and able to work outdoors in most weathers
  • A knowledge of, and love for, Auckland marine reserves
  • Willing and able to approach and talk to the public advocating for Marine reserves
  • Able to managing potential conflict situations and maintain relationships with people from all walks of life
  • A positive and approachable attitude
  • Experience with reporting using Microsoft Office
  • Have a full driver's licence, including the ability to drive a manual car

Desirable

  • Knowledge/experience of working on, and in, the marine environment
  • Practical boat handling and driving skills
  • First aid certificate

The salary range for this position is $58,314 to $73,401 pro rata with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
