As directed by the Ranger in Charge or 2IC, you will plan for and efficiently and effectively deliver, the Pioneer Work Unit's Operational Plan and Annual Work Plan. This will include operating and maintaining plant and equipment, controlling pest plants and animals, undertaking planned burning and wildfire suppression activities and maintaining park infrastructure.
Most work will be field-based, but you will also undertake administrative tasks. You will also manage small projects, undertake compliance and perform various natural and cultural resource management duties. Practical skills and experience in the maintenance and operation of small power equipment and tools for asset maintenance is necessary.
An important aspect of these roles will be providing on-ground supervision to fieldbased staff and working collaboratively with others. A strong personal work ethic and good communication and interpersonal skills will also be important. You will need to be adaptable and flexible to on-the-ground service requirements to ensure superior park management services are achieved.
As a OO4 Ranger, you must be able to:
• Communicate clearly.
• Maintain a positive and supportive approach.
• Work effectively in a team, as a supervisor and alone.
• Undertake general estate development and protection duties.
• Operate and maintain minor plant and equipment.
• Assist in the development and implementation of the annual works program.
• Undertake law enforcement and compliance duties.
• Provide general information in response to queries from park visitors and other stakeholders.
• Assist with emergency response.
• Monitor workplace health and safety.
• Undertake administrative duties including compiling and maintaining records and procuring goods and services.
• Support and promote the interests of First Nations people.
No mandatory qualification are required. Formal qualifications in Conservation and Land Management will be highly regarded.
You will undertake activities requiring a level of environmental and service expertise and the position will be accountable for personal performance. You will demonstrate a strong personal work ethic and actively participate in a team environment ensuring that the overall success of the team is considered to be an outcome of individual success.
Both positions are open to all applicants, however priority consideration will be given to:
• Position 1 - Applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander that meet the minimum requirements for the role.
• Position 2 - Applicants with disability that meet the minimum requirements for the role.
Don't let that stop you applying. If you have a positive attitude and the ability to work (and potentially live) with others and also occasionally alone, your application will be seriously considered.
No accommodation is provided for positions located at the Pioneer Base, in Slade Point, Mackay. However, share accommodation can be negotiated at the Eungella Ranger Base.
To be considered you must provide:
* your current resume (max 4 pages)
* a 1-2 page statement demonstrating your ability or potential to fulfill the requirements under the "What we are looking for" section of the role description.
* information that will help us understand how you could contribute to our workforce diversity.
* evidence that you meet the mandatory requirements.
