Biological Resources

The University of Queensland Biological Resources unit (UQBR) manages the animal production and research facilities for the University of Queensland.

The Queensland Animal Science Precinct (QASP), located on the University of Queensland Gatton Campus. The primary focus of QASP is as an animal health and production research facility conducting world-class research in the areas of animal growth, adaptation, welfare, health and vaccines. The facility provides state-of-the-art facilities for a number of scientists from the organizations conducting research at the facility.

We are currently advertising for an Animal Technical Officer position within Biological Resources - QASP facility, based at Gatton.

 

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this role is to provide care and husbandry to all livestock, carrying out research-associated procedures and ensuring the animal welfare needs are met at all times for Queensland Animal Science Precinct (QASP).

The appointee will also support general use of plant including machinery, chemicals and other materials, assist with any maintenance of tasks and the day to day operation of the QASP facility.

In addition, the employee is required to comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

This position is located at The University of Queensland’s picturesque Gatton Campus. Gatton Campus, UQ combines its Queensland Agricultural College heritage with modern research and teaching facilities in agriculture, agribusiness and veterinary science. Just over an hour’s drive west of Brisbane and five kilometres from the local township, the 1068-hectare Gatton campus offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and world-class facilities including the Queensland Animal Science Precinct, the UQ Veterinary Medical Centre, Gatton Research Dairy, nursery and glasshouse facilities, the southern hemisphere’s largest PV solar array research facility, and a pesticide wind tunnel facility. The campus also operates several commercial plant and animal production units in rural technologies to support teaching, research and hands-on training.

 

Our Ideal Candidate

The applicant applying for Animal Technical Officer (HEW 3) position must possess qualifications in relevant disciplines or an equivalent combination of relevant experience. You should also have expertise in Livestock husbandry practices and handling techniques with a demonstrated experience in the use of plant and machinery.

This person must have excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders and work effectively in a team environment.

You must have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, 3 years fixed-term position at HEW level 3.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $58,005- $63,991, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $67,866 - $74,869.
