Description

If you are a mental health professional who loves animals and is passionate about working on issues relevant to diversity and human-animal well-being, then Sentient Psychology & Counselling might be the right place for you.

While much of what we do might overlap with what is done in other psychology practices, we are also different. This is because our work centres around supporting pet owners, animal welfare professionals and conducting research on mental health and psychosocial issues pertaining to diversity, well-being and interspecies equity.

We are a vibrant and growing psychology practice, located in the centre of Sydney’s CBD.

We can offer a warm, collegiate, supportive environment in a well-equipped and new space with a strong referral base and opportunities for professional growth.

Our lovely team of experienced psychologists and counsellors work across the following areas:

  • Full range of human emotional issues, such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, loneliness, in addition to other challenges.
  • Working with individuals & teams in animal welfare industries - such as animal medical services, conservation parks, NGOs and others - to offer support for burnout, stress, anxiety and improve emotional well-being.
  • Support for issues arising due to various forms of abuse, such as domestic violence, and the impact this can have on both people and their companion animal(s).
  • Coping with grief/ loss of one's companion animal(s).
  • We are also in the midst of exploring options for animal-assisted therapy (AAT) to help reduce pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue, among other issues.
