Wildlife Health Australia (WHA) is the coordinating body for wildlife health in Australia, and initially began as a national initiative of the Australian Government in 2002[1]. The head office is located in Sydney, NSW, but remote arrangements will be considered for the successful applicant.

WHA works with a network of government and private stakeholders across Australia to develop strong partnerships in order to better manage the adverse effects of wildlife diseases on Australia’s animal health industries, human health, biodiversity, trade and tourism. WHA participates in surveillance, investigation, monitoring, research and recording of wildlife disease events.  WHA helps protect Australia's trade, human health, biodiversity and tourism.

WHA is seeking a motivated Program Manager – One Health Surveillance and Wildlife OIE Collaborating Centre for Australia and the Indo-Pacific to join our team on a fixed term, full-time basis (38 hours per week, 2-year contract). We are looking for someone with experience in managing complex projects, team management skills and knowledge of Australia’s biosecurity and animal health systems, plus working knowledge of international policy and frameworks. They must have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as experience in capacity building. The candidate will be able to build and maintain collaborative partnerships and be committed to leading the WHA Wildlife Collaborating Centre for Australia and the Indo-Pacific program.

An ideal candidate will possess the following, specific to the Program Manager – One Health Surveillance and Wildlife OIE Collaborating Centre for Australia and the Indo-Pacific role:

1. Interest and experience in conservation, wildlife health and / or One Health
2. At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
3. At least 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience, and effective people and team management skills.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of Australia’s biosecurity and animal health systems, with a working knowledge of international policy and frameworks considered an advantage.
5. Experience in capacity building and /or policy development, analysis and implementation.
6. Proven ability to build and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships and collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, with international experience considered an advantage.
7. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications and interpersonal skills including negotiating, presenting, active listening and the giving and receiving of constructive feedback.
8. Ability to distil complex scientific information into plain English for a broad range of audiences.

Qualifications & Licences

1. Advanced graduate degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline such as veterinary science, animal / wildlife health, epidemiology, conservation, biological or environmental science or otherwise relevant field.
2. For a veterinary science degree: desirable, but not mandatory that the vet science degree be registrable in one of Australia’s states or territories.
3. A current Australian Drivers’ License.
