Job Summary :
The Professional Consulting Veterinarian (PCV) for NSW/ACT is part of the Australian Professional Veterinary Affairs team and is supportive of the company’s efforts to grow sales and market share. The PCV’s work ensures that Hill’s is known as a scientific, innovative, and credible partner that is engaged with veterinary and pet care professionals to transform the lives of dogs and cats through superior nutrition. The PCV role covers a broad range of professional activities, including, but not limited to: excellence in digital education; building relationships with and education of Vet and Vet Nurse (VN) Key Thought Leaders (KTLs); support for professional associations and veterinary schools within the territory; educational support for the Veterinary Health Care Team (VHCT) in both independent and vet corporate groups; as well as professional and consumer social engagement. This position also provides support for the Hill’s Customer Development Organisation by delivering internal education and coaching to Territory Managers (TM), working closely with the Field Sales Manager (FSM) to identify business needs and support pet and vet customer initiatives. This role will also represent Hill’s at professional events and includes duties as a consultant for the Veterinary Consultation Service.
The PCV reports to the Professional Veterinary Affairs Manager (VAM) and supports the strategy provided by the VAM to deliver Hill’s programs, integrating these programs into the commercial organisation to accomplish the yearly KPI/goals set by the region’s GM, leading to:
Strong positive impression of the Hill’s company, its products, and its services
Continued scientific leadership of Hill’s
Leadership in active veterinary team endorsement and BRMO by world-class KTL and relationship management supported by excellence in face to face and digital education
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
One Commercial Team
- Support a holistic approach across Marketing, PVA and CDO to win in the Vet Channel
- Train, coach and mentor Hill’s Territory Managers, including delivering PVA approved training seminars at monthly state sales meetings and technical coaching in the field. Be the veterinary technical expert and go to technical resource for the state team.
Support FSMs, TMs and Key Account Managers (KAM) with in clinic presentations and customer visits - Deliver legally approved training materials (both therapeutic and wellness) to vet and vet key account stakeholders, both internal and external
- Provide expertise and technical support to vet and key account customers on product selection & usage and support to customers requiring higher levels of knowledge & advice surrounding all Hill’s products
- Leverage Hill’s digital education programs and resources to provide training to the VHCT
- Work with FSMs to identify large independents as targets for growth using two-pronged PVA CDT approach to training, tools
- Provide high level professional technical support to veterinary customers, through telephone and digital media, as part of the Hill’s Veterinary Consultation Service
Professional Vet Affairs Global Strategies
- Provide professional support (lectures, seminars, contract management etc) to veterinary schools, veterinary specialist clinics and KTLs. This includes managing the Hill’s Veterinary Student Representatives and student pet feeding programs at all veterinary schools in the territory.
- Attend veterinary meetings/conferences as requested by the Veterinary Affairs Manager and deliver lectures to veterinarians and veterinary nurses, both within and external to the conference program, as required.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with KTLs, Specialist clinics and Universities in the territory.
- Maintain the highest professional and ethical standards whilst representing the company
Digital Education
- Contribute to the development of, extend and enhance Hill’s digital educational resources for veterinarians, veterinary nurses and consumers as Hill’s makes the transition to an online first company
- Support Hill's relationships with professional veterinary organisations with emphasis on digital educational program initiatives
- Contribute to digital content for self-directed learning for TMs
- Develop bespoke digital content for vet channel and corporate groups as required
- Support the digitisation our internal events and programs to expand reach and promote engagement
- Work with other PCVs to encourage uptake of Hill’s digital education programs by students, clinicians and hospital staff as appropriate
- Provide support and expertise on professional and consumer social sites
Product and Professional Knowledge and Awareness
- Develop and maintain high standards of knowledge in small animal nutrition and Hill’s products through company training and self-study. Stay abreast and understand implications for the business of new research and innovations in nutrition.
- Identify trends and issues in the vet channel and pet industry and recommend effective measures to proactively respond to these issues to drive Hill's leadership
- Keep abreast of trends in the veterinary profession and report on new activity to the VAM
Education / Experience Requirements
- A degree in Veterinary Science and current registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW
- Membership of the ANZCVS, MBA or higher degree or training in small animal medicine or nutrition is a plus
- 3+ years of small animal clinical practice experience
- Previous animal health industry experience is highly regarded
- Basic understanding of business terminology; good analytical skills
- Strong work ethic, professional appearance and approach, high integrity
- Self-motivated and adaptable
Expected Area of Skills :
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and ability to learn company specific tools & programs
- Fluent in English
- Valid driver’s license required
- Excellent communication and media skills (written, verbal and presentation)
- Must be able to work independently, manage a demanding schedule with irregular hours and manage travel within region to deliver internal and external customer visits/training; some overnight travel required
- Ability to make sound decisions under conditions of uncertainty or complexity
- Has built a strong network in the veterinary community, including the local Small Animal Veterinary Association and KTLs
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
- Knowledge of the pet food industry
