Principal Officer – Animal Emergency Preparedness

  • Salary: $113,156 - $151,426 (Plus Superannuation)

The Team

The position of Principal Officer – Animal Emergency Preparedness forms a part of the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services branch within the Agriculture Victoria group.

The Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice, and influences policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Principal Officer – Emergency Animal Disease, you will provide high level technical advice to the Principal Officer-Emergency Animal Disease, Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer-Epidemiology and Risk, Chief Veterinary Officer, and Executive Director to support strategic and operational planning for animal disease emergencies.

The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide expert advice on scientific and strategic decisions in the context of emergency management and preparedness, to ensure emergency animal disease incursions are managed effectively.
  • Influence and provide leadership and technical direction at the state and national levels on animal biosecurity committees and forums dealing with animal biosecurity and the development of emergency animal disease management policy.
  • Liaise and collaborate effectively across DJPR and with a range of state and national government agencies and industry bodies on DJPR priority biosecurity issues, to identify commonalities of approach, and develop systems/processes for emergency management.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate high level skills and technical knowledge in livestock disease control, particularly in the context of emergency animal diseases and relevant enabling legislation.  If you possess detailed knowledge of Victoria's livestock industries and relevant legislation administered by DJPR as well as the ability to participate in strategic planning and contribute to strategic decision-making processes, then this could be the position for you.
