Description
This position is within the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships (QPWS&P) State Planning Team and will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of management planning for Queensland’s terrestrial and marine protected areas and State forests.
In this role you will support a small team of regional planners to prepare values assessments, plans, statements, and thematic strategies, such as visitor management, post-contact cultural heritage, First Nations and monitoring and research, developed under the Values Based management Framework (VBMF) to support the strategic direction of the Department. This includes delivering training and reviewing planning documents and associated spatial layers for quality and consistency. You will also lead strategic projects to develop policy guidelines and standards that support the VBMF planning processes.

As the Principal Conservation Officer you will:
• Lead and coordinate a network of regional staff to deliver the strategic planning program.
• Mentor staff involved in management planning for protected areas, forests and marine parks.
• Provide strategic direction form development of policies, procedures, standards and quality assurance measures to ensure high quality and consistent planning documents.
• Coordinate and assist in maintaining VBMF data support systems such as the VBMF database, spatial layer and estate tracker as a record of the Department's management planning.
• Provide detailed, accurate and timely reports, presentations, training programs, ministerial responses, internal and external correspondence as directed and as situations demand.
• Establish and maintain effective liaison, consultation and negotiations with Regions, internal and external business groups, Government Departments and other stakeholders.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
