Principal Agricultural Officer (Environment)
Reef Compliance & Regulation; Minerals & Northern Compliance; Environmental Services and Regulation; Rockhampton
The Principal Agricultural Officer (Environment) will support the Program Coordinator in program planning and delivery and will provide expert knowledge and technical support to the team of officers who undertake compliance and assessment for cattle grazing, horticulture and grains agricultural sectors.
Principal Agricultural Officer undertakes both compliance and assessment work, and will supervise and lead a small team of Agricultural Officers.
The role will require travel to be undertaken throughout the Great Barrier Reef catchment areas; along with potential travel to Brisbane to engage with relevant external stakeholders and other government agencies. Officers must have the flexibility to participate in compliance field work and other engagement activities.
This will require you to work away from your normal business centre and reside in accommodation provided by the department.
Principal Agricultural Officer (Environment), (AO6) is a role in which you will:
• Provide support to the Program Coordinator, and contribute to the development and implementation of reports, standards, processes, methods, benchmark techniques and performance measures. This may include:
-Development and maintenance of program tools, databases, and statistics, including the use of ESRI Geographic Information System spatial software
o Conducting research and analysis and developing recommendations
o Contributing to the creation of innovative solutions and efficient program management through project and risk evaluation, and continuous improvement of program support tools and materials
o Delivering communication and education activities including training and stakeholder workshops, conferences, and forums to educate and build capacity with clients, stakeholders and service providers
• Undertake the assessment and conditioning of environmental approvals for new cropping and horticultural activities within statutory timeframes.
• Lead assigned compliance activities at agricultural properties including planning site inspections, gathering evidence, and making recommendations for enforcement actions in accordance with the Regulatory Strategy.
• Review the work of team members, including a range of correspondence and advice, as requested, to achieve statutory, administrative and/or other agreed timeframes and to ensure consistency with contemporary Administrative Decision-Making Principles
• Provide expert advice, guidance, and direction to team members, and managing assigned technically complex and contentious matters for the development and endorsement of strategies and options for approval by the delegate
• Supervision of staff, ensuring that the services or deliverables of the team are coordinated, managed and monitored effectively, including:
o Day-to-day supervision of staff within their team and ensuring that the services or deliverables of the team are coordinated, managed and monitored effectively.
o Monitoring and reviewing outputs, processes and procedures
o Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the team.
