Vaxxas is a fast growing and scale-up stage biotech company (with significant funding to complete development and clinical testing of a novel vaccine delivery system) developing a novel vaccine delivery system that safely and cost effectively amplifies vaccine efficacy.
It is an advanced platform that vaccinates by applying a patch to the skin for a few seconds directly depositing vaccine amongst dense population of key immune cells.
The product is designed to be practical, simple to use, low cost and to remove the need for the "cold chain" (thermo-stabilization).
Overview of Position:
Reporting to the Senior Preclinical Studies Scientist, this R&D position will play a key role within multidisciplinary teams tasked with the development of a variety of vaccine formulations delivered using Vaxxas' high density microarray patch technology.
This role offers the opportunity for an existing scientist to expand their knowledge in an exciting research environment to commence a career in the Animal Science and industry sector.
Essential Duties & Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Conducting animal procedures, especially for animals used for either research or teaching purposes.
Performing procedures such as anesthesia, parenteral injections, animal monitoring, environmental enrichment.
Strong understanding of animal welfare regulations and ethical and humane use of animals for research purposes and ensuring these are adhered to.
Experience in experimental design, conducting animal studies, data analysis and report writing to meet GLP standards.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a degree in veterinary, biological sciences or related discipline with a demonstrated track record of working with laboratory/large animals, preferably in research environments.
Registration with the VSB or AVA would be of interest or other relevant Veterinary Registration entity.
Desired experience and skills
Experience in working with different animal species (laboratory and large animals especially pigs).
Experience in the use of laboratory equipment and running laboratory assays following standard protocols and safety standards.
Exceptional communication skills (verbal/written/presentation/relationship building) and the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams (cross-functional - this position involves working across different vaccine products at different stages of preclinical development) with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Experience working with regulated/restricted drugs.
Experience in preparing, submitting, monitoring and control of ethics applications for the use of animals for research purposes.
Good computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel), and with an ability to learn other computer-based systems.
Self-managing, planning, organising, prioritising and multi-tasking on your own and as part of a cross-functional team.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills and effective management of priorities and tight timeframes.
