Description

Fixed term post up to 36 months

This is an exciting opportunity for a post-doctoral research associate to join our multi-disciplinary team and contribute to improved diagnosis and management of fever in sub-Saharan Africa. You will be a member of the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Zoonotic Causes of Acute Febrile Illness (“ZAFI”), which comprises paediatricians, veterinary scientists, epidemiologists, social scientists and experts in infectious disease research and diagnostics development.

You will be based full time in Nairobi, Kenya, where you will be hosted by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). ILRI has a vibrant community of scientists engaged on research on zoonoses. You will work closely with the Director of ZAFI (Dr Siobhan Mor) as well as WP1 lead (Professor Eric Fèvre), who are University of Liverpool staff members based full-time at ILRI.

You will use your knowledge and skills in epidemiology and infectious diseases to contribute to the planning and coordination of hospital-based studies as well as capacity building initiatives for local researchers. You will also travel to Uganda, Ethiopia and other parts of Kenya to support project activities across sites.

You will have a PhD in epidemiology or equivalent. Applications from veterinarians who hold a PhD in epidemiology are welcome, provided you have relevant experience/exposure to (human) clinical settings.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon submitting written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.

The post is available for up to 36 months, starting as near as possible to 1st October 2024.
