About the role
Grain Growers is looking for a Policy Manager to lead the development and delivery of their technical policy initiatives including biosecurity, regulatory (plant breeding/agvet chemicals), standards, classification, and quality.
This is a new role within an established policy team, you will report directly to the GM of Policy and Advocacy.
About the person
You will have proven experience to operate in a Policy role that requires both proactive strategic planning, along with reactive high-pressure work. You will showcase self-motivation with ability to work independently. You will have the natural capability to influence, engage and involve stakeholders including government and regulatory bodies ideally within the grain sector.
Duties include:
- Lead the development and delivery of GrainGrowers’ technical policy initiatives
- Ensure effective and constructive engagement with internal and external stakeholders
- Consult, liaison and advice on issues effecting the sector
- Undertake research and analysis on key issues impacting the grains industry and develop papers, briefings, and reports to a high standard
- Prepare and draft innovative policy solutions, for consideration by GrainGrowers
- Assist with the delivery of policy outcomes which promote the development of a more efficient, sustainable, and profitable grains industry
- Represent the interests of Australian grain growers in industry and government (including within NFF, GTA and GRDC).
- Develop papers and delivery of public presentations which position Grain Growers as a thought leader in policy and grain industry development.
To be successful you will have:
- Graduate/Postgraduate degree in agriculture, science, or public policy related discipline.
- Demonstrated success in policy analysis and evaluation, development and implementation.
- Exceptional research, analysis, critical thinking, writing and reporting skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders (internal and external).
- Sound organisational skills and the ability to manage a consistently high level of work across a variety of tasks.
- Ability to work with flexibility, entrepreneurship, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team.
