About us
Seafood Industry Australia (SIA) is the national peak-body representing the whole of Australia’s seafood industry with members from the wild-caught, aquaculture and postharvest sectors.
As the voice of Australian seafood, SIA provides consumers, Government and other stakeholders with confident and united representation. We are a member-based, not-for-profit organisation with the mission to Promote, Protect and Develop the Australian seafood industry at a national and international level.
About the role
In 2021, SIA announced the absorption of the responsibilities of the National Aquaculture Council and the launch of the Aquaculture Advisory Committee (AAC). As such, we are now seeking a Policy and Project Officer to support the AAC, provide policy advice and recommendations, and contribute to the development of policies and projects that support and further the Australian aquaculture sector.
In this role you will report to the SIA CEO and will provide executive services for the AAC, while acting as a conduit between the AAC, SIA members, the Australian aquaculture industry, relevant Government bodies and other stakeholders. With a strategic mindset and a driven approach, you will utilise your knowledge of the Australian aquaculture sector to develop policies through the writing of briefs, correspondence, submissions, policy and advice for a range of internal and external audiences, while developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships.
About you
This role requires a logical and analytical thinker who is a natural at managing relationships. If you’re a self-starter with tenacity and experience in aquaculture, agribusiness or primary production then we’d love to hear from you.
Knowledge of, or a background in aquaculture, the commercial seafood industry, primary production or agribusiness is essential. To be successful in this position applicants must possess the following attributes:
Essential
- A sound understanding of the commercial seafood industry, agriculture or primary production and the issues relevant to Australia’s aquaculture sector;
- Ability to manage key stakeholders and partnerships, often with competing objectives;
- The ability to understand, formulate and communicate public policy options and recommendations;
- Experience in interpreting and translating high-level research, evaluation, analysis and policy into easy to understand information;
- Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and work independently to deadlines;
- Good project and budget management skills with experience in this area;
- Confidence in contacting and presenting to groups, stakeholders and individuals;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment;
- A high-level of attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and solid organisational skills;
- Relevant university degree and more than 4 years industry experience.
Preferred
- Established relationships within key stakeholder organisations including government agencies, industry sector representatives and direct producers;
- Demonstrated ability to proactively network with local and federal government agencies, various industry groups, professional services firms and other stakeholders to utilise existing resources, identify knowledge gaps and develop opportunities;
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and high-level general computer software skills including WordPress and MailChimp.
Hours, salary and conditions
At SIA we realise the right candidate is not always located on our doorstep and as such, employees work from their established home-offices. Location is flexible.
- 0.6 FTE with the opportunity to extend.
- You will work from home and must be flexible with hours worked;
- Domestic travel will be a requirement of this role.
Salary guide: 80-100K pro-rata 0.6 FTE, plus super.
