We are currently looking for a Penguin Keeper or an Assistant Penguin Keeper with a passion for positive animal welfare and husbandry to join our fantastic team at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Auckland.

 

About the Role

You will be responsible for assisting with the day to day care and management of our Gentoo and King Penguins, their exhibit and life support system.

 

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

• Providing a suitable environment for our penguins which offers excellent welfare.
• Meeting all husbandry requirements of the penguins including cleaning, animal training, enrichment, dietary, veterinary and breeding requirements.
• Observation and maintaining a high standard of record keeping.
• Conducting feeding presentations and educational talks to visitors as required.
• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

 

 

About You

The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about and have an understanding of animals, will display commitment, loyalty and a strong work ethic. Animal husbandry experience/ knowledge is essential, in addition to physical fitness as some heavy lifting will be involved. Experience working in a zoo or aquarium environment is preferred along with qualifications in a zoological related discipline. You will be working within a small team environment so excellent interpersonal skills, open-mindedness, and a willingness to accept new ideas and perspectives is necessary.
