The core mission of Australian Institute for Microbiology & Infection (AIMI) at UTS is to decipher interlinked human, animal, and environmental problems in microbiology and disease. Our internationally recognised and collegial researchers apply cutting-edge research methods and tools to understand how microbes grow, live, adapt, and survive, with cross-connected Institute themes that focus on antibiotic resistance, infectious diseases, vaccine development & biosecurity, food safety, computational biology, genomics and proteomics, microbial ecology, and microbial morphology.
We do innovative and excellent research that matters, and partner with Australian and international universities, state and federal government agencies, and a variety of industry and commercial partners to deliver cutting-edge fundamental and translational research outcomes.
About the role
We are recruiting multiple AIMI Pathway Fellows to undertake research that increases our understanding of how microbes grow, live, adapt and survive in their environments and as part of complex, interconnected systems. You will conduct cutting-edge research that addresses significant research problems in one or more of our themes. Responsibilities within the Fellowship period will include:
- Aggressively seek competitive grant funding to establish an independent research career
- Perform high quality research and produce quality research publications
- Undertake and complete an agreed research program within one or more Institute themes
- Supervise technical and research assistants as appropriate
About You
We invite applications from Early Career Researchers wishing to transition to an independent research leadership role. As an AIMI Pathway Fellow, you will be a critical thinker and problem solver, with the ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team. You will have skills and knowledge of microbiology, microbial ecology, molecular biology, proteomics, genomics, or computational biology. You will also have:
- PhD in an appropriate field.
- Demonstrated research track record and proven record of high quality and competitive grant application preparation
- Ability to provide quality research supervision

Base Salary Range: $112,310 to $132,925 pa (Level B).
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
The position is full-time and will be made on a fixed term (2 years).
