Location Profile

Lilydale High School has a long tradition of providing excellent educational programs for students Years 7 to 12 and is highly regarded in the community. Great efforts are made to see that its students consistently attain outstanding achievements in a wide variety of areas, including VCE results, sports and community service activities. Collaborative decision-making processes, resulting in clearly defined policies and programs, aim to ensure that each child is challenged and extended academically, creatively, socially and physically.

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum for Years 7 to 12 in the following eight Key Learning Areas: English, Languages, Technology, Science, Mathematics, Humanities, Physical and Sport Education and the Arts. All Year 7 and 8 students study units from these core areas. Year 9/10 students select from a wide range of units offered by all areas of study within set requirements. VCE subject choice is determined by vocational or further study ambitions and is made from a comprehensive range of courses. Special features of the curriculum include the provision of an accelerated program for academically gifted and talented students and the study by Year 10 students of VCE units. The school also offers VET and VCAL courses. The current Charter Priorities are: Improved Student Outcomes including improved NAPLAN and VCE results; Improved Connectedness and Improved Transitions from Year 8 to 9 to 10.

Role

The Zoology Coordinator role requires working with a range of animals (predominantly reptiles), providing a high standard of husbandry and care of the collection, exhibit maintenance and record keeping.

The successful applicant will be a strong team player, with the ability to follow instruction easily and without supervision.

A current employee WWCC is required for this position.

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and contribute as part of the team that maintains reptile exhibits and off-display enclosures
  • Work with students and volunteers to develop their skills in current animal husbandry techniques
  • Provide a safe working environment for students and volunteers
  • Supervise students working in the facility outside of class time, during recess and lunch, and on school holidays
  • Work with students and volunteers to prepare and distribute food to the reptiles in the collection
  • Maintain daily reports, logs, training and enrichment records and veterinary records as required
  • Closely observe and monitor reptiles with regard to general appearance, food consumption and other health-related issues
  • Report any abnormalities in health, physical appearance and behaviour to the Principal team
  • Monitor and maintain water quality in the enclosures of aquatic and semi-aquatic species
  • Participate in animal enrichment and training programs as required
  • Engage with Zoology Centre visitors to promote the Zoology program and provide a positive experience
  • Administer prescribed medications, supplements, or treatments under the guidance of veterinary and supervisory staff
  • Assist in the capture of animals that need to be examined by veterinary staff, relocated to another enclosure etc.
  • Assist in the control and eradication of pests and rodents
  • Follow safety guidelines and report any safety concerns to the Principal team
  • Monitor food and equipment stocks and order as required
  • Ensure quarantine protocols are followed correctly
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures
  • Work within health and safety guidelines
