Position Summary
As part of the Registration Management program, the Operations Lead provides strategic support to the Program’s Executive Director. Under broad direction, the role involves a variety of research, writing, coordination, management, and advisory tasks that assist the Executive Director in meeting the objectives of the Program and the Agency. The position will also manage relationships with external service providers, internal and external clients, and stakeholders, including commonwealth, state and industry bodies and non-government organisations.
Core functions
Key duties may include:
- Develop and implement strategies, operational policies, priorities, and work practices.
- Contribute to relevant agency projects on behalf of the Registration Management program, including strategic planning, audit, risk management, and legislative reform.
- Build organisational capability and responsiveness by identifying and addressing potential opportunities, risks, and emerging issues and leading business improvement activities.
- Resolve sensitive and/or complex ministerial, stakeholder, and staff enquires.
- Prepare and coordinate input to departmental submissions and other high-level consultative material.
- Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders on complex issues and lead stakeholder engagement meetings and forums.
- Monitor and report on program performance using a variety of spreadsheet and database tools.
- Use project management principles to design and implement efficient workflow and related practices, with a focus on continuous process improvement.

To be considered for these roles you will need:
Essential:
- Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to consider inputs from a range of sources to prepare important documents on complex scientific and regulatory matters.
- Demonstrated ability in managing and establishing priorities and outcomes across teams, through the effective use of project management, monitoring, liaison, and reporting skills.
- Superior people and negotiation skills and the ability to work collegially with a broad range of stakeholders from industry, government, and the wider community.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate, manage, and provide pragmatic advice on potentially sensitive issues with diplomacy.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor and review regulatory systems and processes to provide proactive advice that is responsive to changing environments.
- Experience in managing a large and complex workload with a high level of autonomy.
- Tertiary qualifications and work experience in a relevant scientific discipline, such as agricultural or horticultural science, toxicology, biotechnology, entomology, weed science, veterinary medicine, product development, or chemical regulation.
