Official Veterinarian/ Food Safety Officer

The role is to operate as a qualified OVS/Food Safety Officer undertaking a range of duties to support and prepare food businesses for EU Exit, including food safety audits, providing advice and issuing export health certificates. The post holder will be hosted and funded by Birmingham City Council but operate across the West Midlands Combined Authority. As such the post holder will provide support throughout the West Midlands region, and therefore it is essential that the candidate can drive and has access to a vehicle. You will be remunerated for the use of your vehicle.

This is a specialist vacancy. The post holder will need a relevant veterinary qualification in addition to being registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or equivalent food related qualification.

The post holder, due to their qualification, will support the city’s food programme needs during occasions when demand for business support is reduced. Applicants will have experience in enforcement interventions; supervisory skills, ability to use a range of computer packages and have excellent communication skills with a range of different communities, stakeholders and businesses.
