Canberra Veterinary Emergency Service (CVES) is an Emergency Animal Hospital, providing an after-hours service, operating weeknights from 6pm to 8am, 24 hours on weekends and public holidays. Our practice is a purpose-built facility that offers state of the art equipment, with a full team of vet professionals that will mentor and support you in any emergency environment. About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Veterinary Manager for our CVES Practice based in Gungahlin. As an integral member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for providing the professional support to our clinical veterinary team in an environment that nurtures trust, respect and kindness, to educate and empower our team members, and provide an employer of choice environment. This role can include some after hours shift work and has a combination of clinical and non-clinical work. The Vet Manager ensures that daily operations run smoothly in the Practice, allowing veterinarians to focus on patients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Clinic Team in partnership with the Hospital Director and Clinical Coordinator by advocating for CVES core values and encouraging a positive culture of accountability, empathy, and openness.
  • Manage recruitment in partnership with the Clinical Coordinator and recruitment team.
  • Supports Team members through development and retention by providing regular and timely feedback, implementing, and monitoring career development plans, and conducting regular performance reviews.
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of CVES Workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures and ensures these practices are embedded within the clinic
  • Clinic Performance and Driving Sustainability
  • Actively champions clinic budgeting and strategic planning with the hospital Director
  • Demonstrate balanced decision making with consideration of both clinical and commercial outcomes.
  • Client Experience: Drives a customer-focused culture and demonstrates and reinforces the highest level of customer service with all team members.
  • Effectively communicate and consult with clients, vets, and team members on all enquiries, including complaints, grief support, reminders, and follow ups
  • Promote high standards of patient care
  • Building relationships with our valued referring veterinarians
  • Project management within the hospital
  • Leadership in business and clinical strategic planning and execution collaboratively, and with the support of our leadership team
  • Ensure adequate resources and support are available to teams to deliver the highest quality of care to patients
  • Liaise with other veterinary managers within our Company to ensure alignment and promotion of the business group and to maximise efficiency, operations and team success.

The right candidate will be part of a high performing team and will be expected to have:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a people leader, preferably in a clinical setting, developing teams and driving performance
  • Experience in leadership of small to medium teams, or a willingness to participate in our leadership development program
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects from concept to completion, and react flexibly and assertively to changes that may occur
  • Knowledge and experience of vet services or other clinical services  advantageous however not essential
  • Excellence in relationship building and stakeholder management
  • Able to negotiate effectively and communicate openly and honestly on all levels
  • A strong work ethic with a professional, kind and friendly manner
  • Ability to thrive in providing exceptional client/ patient experience where nothing is a problem
  • Ability to work weekends and after hours (inclusive of some Public Holidays)
