NLIS Data Manager

Location: Negotiable

Salary: $129,379 to $173,138 + super.

Please note: Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.

The Livestock Traceability Team, within the CVO Unit manages the development and implementation of the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) standards, business rules, systems and activities that ensure Victoria meets national livestock traceability requirements. The team is also responsible for management of the Property Identification program and the NLIS tag ordering system. The implementation of NLIS (Cattle), NLIS (Pigs) and the recently introduced electronic NLIS (Sheep & Goats) provides improved biosecurity, market access and productivity outcomes for Victorian agriculture.

Reporting to the Manager Livestock Traceability, the NLIS Data Manager is responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership in livestock identification data and systems implementation, maintenance and hosting. The position will lead the management, evaluation and ongoing development of business systems that support the business activities and functions of Victoria's electronic identification system for livestock, as well as provide high level technical advice relating to low frequency tag designs and associated hardware.

 

The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide high level technical advice relating to the current and emerging technologies related to livestock traceability radio frequency devices, associated readers and third-party software.
  • Lead continuous improvement and development of enhanced data analytics to provide high level trend analysis and monitoring of traceability data being entered onto the NLIS database.
  • Provide high level information systems advice to the Manager Livestock Traceability and senior management across Agriculture Victoria and DJPR on relevant activities, strategic issues, opportunities and risks relating to traceability data capture that may impact on external stakeholders.

 

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Previous experience in livestock traceability database and system analysis would be well regarded.

 

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is negotiable.
