Medical Laboratory Scientist – Veterinary Pathology

The Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) was established 14 years ago. Our North Ryde headquarters is the largest veterinary referral facility in the southern hemisphere. SASH also has two other hospitals, SASH Central Coast and our newest facility in Adelaide opened late 2021. Our core purpose is to help pets and their families live their best life and we have the privilege of caring for over 20,000 pets and their families each year.

With the recent and continuous growth of the business, our pathology department has identified the need to expand our team to better service the needs of the business. We have an opportunity for someone looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist position in a supportive, dynamic, and hardworking team.

 
About the Role:

We have an opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to be part of SASH’s team in Sydney. This role is responsible for managing and delivering day-to-day activities of the pathology department across the hospital.
Further to this you will be involved in but not limited to the following:

  • Providing input into the design and fit-out of our hospital laboratory
  • Maintaining and operating laboratory equipment including haematology and clinical chemistry analysers
  • Reviewing, interpreting, and reporting blood film morphology across a variety of species
  • Processing samples for urinalysis / serology / cytology / histology grossing
  • Completion of clinical records including high quality and prompt communication with SASH clinicians
  • Developing and maintaining standard pathology protocols
  • Participation in the compliance, development, and maintenance of WHS systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensuring appropriate invoicing for services provided

About You:

We are looking for someone who is interested in learning and growing in their role and prepared to go the extra mile to make SASH a great place to work and be the best provider of specialist veterinary care to our patients and their families, so they can live their best life. To be successful, you will have:

  • Bachelor degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in a multi-disciplinary laboratory setting
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of automated haematology and clinical chemistry analysers
  • Experience with blood film morphology reporting
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer and numeracy skills with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated an ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Current drivers’ licence

Desirable:

  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory information systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality systems including NATA accreditation
  • Experience in veterinary pathology
