Marine Mammal Supervisor

About the role:
Supervise staff in area of responsibility to ensure that the appropriate level of care, enrichment and training is provided to ensure welfare and animal training standards are maintained for the relevant animal collection and to ensure all presentations and animal adventures are presented at the highest possible standards.

Duties:
• Be responsible for the development and effective implementation of appropriate behavioral enrichment, conditioning programs and animal husbandry programs for relevant animals and to ensure designated Key Performance Indicators are met
• Liaise with Management Team in regard to animal health and welfare
• Be responsible for maintaining effective and efficient daily operations of assigned areas
• Be responsible for staff in assigned area to ensure code of conduct standards are met
• Ensure quality of all exhibits and associated presentations and animal adventure programs
• Willingness to work some weekend days and act as duty officer as required
• Purchase to budgetary requirements all required equipment and consumables other than animal food
• Purchase, store, maintain and ensure correct use of all relevant marine animal enrichment and activity equipment/items for the relevant animal collection

Skills and Experience:
• Minimum 5C level of skill for internal applicants
• Minimum of 10 of years’ experience in a role of professional animal care
• Tertiary qualification or zoo keeping certificate
• Excellent communication and organisation skills
• Ability to manage a diverse group of people
