Description

THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and expand a large veterinary hospital and form part of a key animal welfare leadership team at the RSPCA NSW.  The role will require the application of a range of clinical and leadership skills to drive the delivery of a quality veterinary service to private clients and their animals as well as the animals cared for within the RSPCA shelters and in the care of the Inspectorate.

The role has a sizeable budget for the expansion of services offered and investment in facilities. The aim will be to develop a veterinary services ‘centre of excellence’ for the RSPCA NSW and the Hunter/Newcastle/Greater Sydney region.

The role is supported by an experienced Practice Manager and a team of dedicated and skilled veterinarians and veterinary nurses with diverse interests including shelter medicine, surgery, equine medicine and exotic animals. The hospital is spacious and well equipped but is also the focus of an enhancement in the coming months, to grow the facility and resources which you will have the opportunity to contribute to its success.

The future proposition will play a key role in the RSPCA NSW’s delivery of animal welfare outcomes across the state as well as the development of veterinarians and veterinary nurses across three locations.

The Managing Veterinarian role has a component of clinical work and mentoring veterinary staff in addition to  leadership, management and strategic responsibilities. There is strong support of the Senior Operations Manager and the RSPCA NSW team more broadly including animal operations and veterinary teams based in Sydney and throughout NSW.

Consequently, the role would suit an experienced veterinarian with strong small animal clinical skills but also an interest in business development, process improvement and change management. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge of private veterinary practice while playing an important role in furthering animal welfare through contributing to the RSPCA core functions relating to the enforcement of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and caring for and rehoming thousands of animals every year.

The role is full time and will offer a competitive remuneration package. RSPCA NSW prides itself in supporting professional development including further studies, involvement in policy creation and/or research etc. There is no after hours emergency work and there are multiple referral and emergency clinics within one hour of the veterinary hospital.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will require the following skills and experience:

• Registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW

• Minimum five years’ experience as a veterinarian within a veterinary practice

• Qualifications in management and/or previous experience managing a team of veterinary surgeons

• Previous experience in leading a team, including recruitment and performance management

• A demonstrated high standard of veterinary practice

• Highly developed organisational and time management skills

• High-level problem solving and analytical skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to lead and coach others

REMUNERATION

Annual salary of $120,000 plus superannuation offered for the role based on experience.
