ABOUT THE POSITION
The Northern Territory Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced person to work within the Rangeland Monitoring Branch as the Manager Rangeland Monitoring. This position is a 6 month, full time position located in Palmerston.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing a team of technical staff to deliver a field-based monitoring program across pastoral stations in the NT. The person must therefore have a demonstrated ability and capacity to motivate, manage and lead a team to deliver key project outcomes. Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated high level project management skills and an ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines are essential. High level written, verbal and interpersonal skills are also essential as is the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Technically, the person must have demonstrated experience in assessing and monitoring the health and status of natural resources and landscape processes. This experience must be in the form of both satellite and ground based methods. Knowledge and experience in the application of Geographic Information Systems for mapping and for addressing natural resource management issues is critical. Demonstrated ability in the interpretation of remote sensing imagery; experience in digital data collection and management (e.g. Open Data Kit or Survey123); and the ability to run Python scripts used for processing environmental data would be highly valued for this role.
This role will also be required on occasion to undertake remote field work with the field teams for a week or two at a time.
